Rein Vanderhill paints botanically accurate large scale floral and fruit subjects in their natural setting. Their texture and shape are shown with high contrasts and intense colors as well as subtle gradations of shadow. Rein is attracted to unusual organic irregular shapes and shadows made by bright sunlight on the leaves and petals. The background between the subjects can also be as engaging as the flowers themselves. The paintings look photographic but closer examination reveals the illusion is made with liquid and flowing paint-strokes. Rein hopes everyone can become engaged with the sensual and emotional content in the painting. His goal is to create an immersive experience, an impression of space, light and motion.
