Tim Klunder Statement

As an active and exhibiting artist, my commitment is to continue and further the boundaries of the representational tradition in Western art. My emphasis is landscape and my images usually contain a combination of both man-made and natural motifs. My paintings are primarily executed on hardboard panels and paper in a wide variety of sizes and proportions. Acrylic is my medium of choice. Most of my paintings are begun and finished in the studio and utilize a broad array of source material in their development I will often use small pencil, pen, and charcoal sketches, as well as photographs done on site, to assist in the formulation of a resolved image.

Memory fragments are also important in this development. I find the patina of memory to be a fascinating element in the formulation of my work. A consistent and recurring theme throughout my work is the interrelationship between man and the natural environment. Because of this, many of my painting utilize agricultural and small-town subjects. This allows me to fully explore these complex relationships while enabling me to depict the rural and natural environment for which I feel a deep and abiding affinity.
